Barbara Martell has been working with and in service of others her entire life. Before moving toward the field of spiritual direction, she worked as an elementary school teacher, infant and preschool exercise and swim instructor, on a retreat team planning and presenting in days/evenings of reflection, and raising five children into adulthood. She received an MA in Holistic Spirituality and Spiritual Direction as well as a Certificate of Advanced Study in Applied Spirituality from Chestnut Hill College in 1997. She received an MS in Counseling Psychology and Human Services from Chestnut Hill College in 2000. She has been a Spiritual Director in private practice at St. Francis Center for Renewal in Bethlehem, PA, since 1994. Throughout this time, she continuously designed, presented and promoted programs that focused on renewal, spiritual formation, and human development. Her courses at Moravian Theological Seminary are often experienced by students as deeply engaging and transformative.
